But poverty begins at home: in the UK I have not only met many victims of banks and other institutions but also of lawyers! When people, especially farmers, commit suicide because of overindebtedness, bankruptcies or other financial pressures we ought to look at what can be done here, at our doorstep.

The Oxford Research Group has published Beyond Terror to illustrate how climate change is a much more real danger than potential acts from terrorists.

The Forum for Stable Currencies has published a Public Credit Petition to raise awareness among the general public, journalists and politicians about the questionable scarcity of money when ‘green money’ is badly needed.

On the occasion of the Attwood Award, I also gave a copy to Peter Etherden who writes under his pseudonym William Shepherd, also on the history of usury. Peter encouraged me to write Open Letters:

• the one to the Chancellor was inspired by Leonard Cohen whose concert Lilly had invited me to go to. I saw on the news what Lilly had already spotted on the net: the economy is supposedly so bad that the Chancellor had to go to the concert to cheer himself up…
• the reminder to the Chairman has no musical inspiration but here is now a chance for proving Dr. Yunus wrong: maybe institutions CAN deliver what they are supposed to? I have long admired the Chairman’s style of executing his power. Hence I do hope that he will honour our request to investigate the money supply in a long-term perspective.

And I have faith in Leonard Cohen’s inspirations: First We Take Manhattan, then we Take Berlin! After all, Sterling is the bridge between Dollar- and EuroLand! And maybe Sterling quality can be applied even to finance made in the City!
