Chai from the creative company Mo-shon in Brixton has contributed the graphical bridge between our current poverty-ridden world and Dr. Yunus’ vision of a world without poverty where health, education, pollution and poverty are addressed by ‘social businesses’.
The design will be on the T-shirts of our ‘YuNuS Hosts’ at St. James’s where we had to close bookings. However, on the day, we will allow for a queue. The worst that can happen is that latecomers will have to stand.
‘Social business’ are the activities of creative entrepreneurs and ethical and philanthropic investors.
‘Credit without collateral’ are the terms and conditions under which ‘money’ or ‘funding’ is provided – whether for governments (see Green Credit for Green Growth) or for businesses (not only for women in Bangladesh!).
Yes, the regulatory framework needs to change, too, so that charities which Dr. Yunus calls ‘trickle-down economics’ can become as efficient as enterprises and taxation does not emigrate to ‘tax havens’.
‘Mutual credit’ – where the ‘collateral’ is trust between people – is the basis for LETS (Local Exchange Trade Systems). Our YuNuS Hosts will be rewarded in LINKS – as the London-wide currency with which members can trade. We’ve come a long way since I started the first LETS in London as the ‘Green Money Network’ (1989) and even organised meetings at the LSE…
We live in interesting times, where ‘capital as usual’ can not continue with ‘interest as usual’… There is too much at stake: our planet with its delicate atmoshpere.
