Igniting a Yunus Spark in Berlin

Last night I attended one of the many meetings of the ‘Innovation Circle’ in Berlin which Udo Blum has been organising for 33 years. Guests are as likeminded as I would wish them to be.

But the format is conventional: a speaker makes a presentation and the audience is invited to ask – one question at a time.

Since the topic was ‘regions rising’ I spoke about the London region that we are igniting with Dr. Yunus’ new book. I held it up proudly whilst my cosmopolitan heart was beating.

At the same time, my German heart beats in this combination of Berlin, Brandenburg, Potsdam and Havelland, this most romantic landscape in the former DDR where I am watching American companies spread their products. ‘Multi-national’ is a euphemism, and the challenge of re-balancing city and countryside may be easier here than around London. There I was told by an influential economist that ‘urbanisation is good’…

Mentioning my passion for ‘Grameen IT’, I promptly was given a business card by André Lindebaum whose ‘iq consultancy‘ includes a microfinance project for Berlin and Brandenburg: aimed at self-employed people, non-profits and the creative industry. The equivalent of the local council funds his initiative of bringing funding bodies together with people who need finance. What a model to emulate!

Long live the magic of networking strong hearts and clear minds!
